Ten individuals sentenced of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for carrying out the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the husband and wife's age disparity of 24 years.
The court handed down suspended jail terms of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A persistent unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France coincides with the Macrons initiating a legal action for defamation in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's identity.
Their legal filing contends that Owens brushed aside any factual proof disproving her claim choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she was a teacher at his secondary school.
The two entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
